First discovered in Australia in 1868. Parentage is unknown but some believe it descended from the French Crab apple. It was released in the United States in the 1970's. In 2013, the United States Postal Service featured the Granny Smith in a set of four stamps honoring the historic strains of apples.
A popular choice for apple pies and dipped caramel apples. Also, great for sauces, salads, snacking, ciders and freezing.
